Christmas Brass

A group of Mrs Poynter’s pupils and ex pupils from JYHS performed Christmas carols at St John’s Hospital on Monday evening providing a festive atmosphere for patients and visitors to the hospital. A collection was taken by the Friends of St. John’s Hospital and they raised over £100 in donations.

Fairtrade Group

The Fairtrade group organised and ran a stall at this year’s Christmas Concert. The group made a whopping £93 from the sale of Fairtrade products and home baking made from Fairtrade sugar. Great job and well done!

Ex-Pupils Inspire S6

Seven of our past students gave up their Wednesday morning to talk to our entire S6 about life at college and university.  Pupils were given an insight into lectures, student finances, the need for backups, living away from home as well as the Fresher’s Week.  A very useful and enjoyable session.

Brass Solo and Ensemble Success

Pupils from the JYHS recently took part in the Scottish Brass Band Association’s East of Scotland Solos and Ensembles competition. All pupils played very well. We were delighted to learn that one of our soloists took 3rd place, and both our 1st year ensemble and 3rd year ensemble took 1st place in the competition. They will now progress to the championship finals in Howden Park Centre on Saturday 7th February 2015. We wish them all the best for the finals.

Hour of Code

Last year JYHS pupils took part in the largest education event in history with over 15 million students from over 180 countries learning the basics of programming. This year, only two schools from West Lothian have signed up to take part – and we are one of those!!!

Construction Skills Champions

While attending the Skills Scotland event in Edinburgh in November, two of our S4 pupils entered a competition to build a giant Rubik’s style cube against the clock.  The boys beat all other teams with a staggering time of just over one minute.  An excellent attempt.  The boys were presented with gifts from the Construction Industry Training Board last week.
