Basketball Success

A huge congratulations to our JYHS basketball stars:

  • Mark Peacock (S5) has been picked for the Scotland’s U18 Men’s Basketball Team. He is currently the youngest in the squad;
  • Leah Stewart (S6) plays for Scotland’s U18 women’s team;
  • William Wardrop (S5) has been selected for Scotland’s U16 team;
  • Stewart Kerr (S3) who has been picked for Scotland’s U15 team; and
  • Rose Harvey (S1) who was part of the Scotland team last year and is up for re-selection in March.

Many thanks to Sophie, Angela and Ross who delivered informative and honest talks about life as undergraduates to some of our S6 UCAS applicants.  This is a valuable service offered by Sainsburys in Livingston to offer realistic advice on ‘how it is to be an undergraduate currently in Scottish universities’. S6 Teach Science to Primary 7 Pupils

As part of their Science Baccalaureate, S6 pupils from The James Young High School have been visiting all of our associated primary schools.  They planned and taught engaging Science lessons based on: heart rate, chemical reactions and dragsters. The S6 pupils did a fantastic job and the primary 7 pupils commented that they found the lessons fun and interesting. Well done everyone and we are hoping to see all of the primary 7 pupils at next year’s Science Fair.

West Lothian Schools Swimming Trials

Well done to all the pupils who took part in the secondary schools swimming trials on Sunday 22nd November at Deans Community High School. There was a large number of entries from across all 11 Secondary Schools and there was some terrific results from The James Young High School. Senior Wind Band Success – Gold Award

Congratulations to the JYHS Senior Wind Band who gained a Gold Award at the Scottish Concert Band Festival on Saturday, 5th December 2015. A special mention to the conductor, Angela Duncan, as it was her first ever Festival.

The band will now go forward to the national finals in March, held at the Perth Concert Hall.
