CEM Tests

As part of our school’s continuing policy to raise standards and pupil performance it is proposed that SOSCA (Secondary On Screen Curriculum Assessments) CEM (Centre for Evaluating and Monitoring) tests be administered to all S2 after the Easter break. This is a West Lothian wide practice and all S2 pupils in West Lothian will undertake these assessments around a similar time.

Science Fair

On the evening of Monday 14th March, pupils attended The JYHS P7 Science Fair. Pupils used the skills they had learned from science lessons which were delivered to them by our S6 Science Baccalaureate pupils and they then worked on their projects at home. The standard of all of the projects was incredible and pupils and parents enjoyed a very informative talk about Pandas from Sandie Robb from The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.

Jass Awards Graduation

JASS AWARD GRADUATION
Well done to our S2 pupils who have been working through achieving their JASS Awards during S1 & S2. They have taken part in activities such as hillwalking, volunteering as well as developing their own hobbies and sporting interests. The vast majority of pupils achieved units from the Award but 73 pupils managed to achieve the Gold Award – huge congratulations.

Schuh Success

The James Young High School retained its title at the Schuh Design Challenge for the 4th year in a row the competition was held on Tuesday 16 March at the Howden Park Centre.
The winning shoe was designed by  Violette Chumbe (S3), Well Done Violette
Violette’s shoe was completely unique in that it told the ‘story’ of equality and feminism. The Judges were completely bowled over by this and the quality of her work

Science Week

Next week is National Science and Engineering Week and to celebrate the Science Department have a few things happening.

The first is a fantastic Science Fair which will be held on Monday evening  (14 March ).  The Fair will see around 90 pupils from our cluster primaries bringing their work on Science Projects along to the fair. Fabulous prizes will be awarded to the winners on the night. Sport Relief

As a whole school community we are trying to run/swim/cycle/walk the circumference of the world which is 40,000 km and we are encouraging everyone in our school community to participate and raise as much money for Sports Relief which takes place on Friday 18th March 2016.

To raise money for Sports Relief you can be sponsored per km or give a single amount.  In school pupils can go down to PE Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes to run, there is the Tuesday night running club and pupils can swim in the pool after school on a ...
