YOUR SCHOOL NEEDS YOU!

We have our annual careers evening on Thursday, 1 February, 6 – 7.30 pm in school.  This event is open to parents and pupils of all S2-6 pupils and is always very busy.  Each college, university or career area has a stall and the parents/pupils interested in hearing more will come up and ask you questions about your role such as what qualifications do I need?  What does your job entail?

Going to College in 2018 ?

West Lothian College are running an event on Tuesday 19th December 2017  from 9.40am to 12.30pm for anyone who is  hoping to go to college full time starting in August 2018. Any pupil who is even considering this as an option for next year should attend the event.

Book Week Celebrations

As part of our Book Week celebrations #bookweekscot we were are delighted to welcome award winning author Lari Don to JYHS.  Lari is a  writer and storyteller, she has written a number of books with a fairytale link.

As well as Lari’s visit our celebrations included staff and students dressing up as fairytale characters and classroom doors bring decorated in a Fairytale theme.  It was a great day, thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.

Donald Dewar Debating Competition

JYHS recently entered the annual Donald Dewar Debating Competition organised by The Law Society of Scotland.  We were drawn against Clifton Hall School , debating the motion: “This House Believes that Monuments to Controversial Figures Should be Removed.” We were the proposition.

Scottish Concert Band Festival

Following a term of hard work and a terrific performance at the Edinburgh heat of the Scottish Concert Band Festival on Saturday, our wind band were delighted to receive a Gold Plus award and qualification to the Scottish finals in Perth in March.
The JYHS performance was amongst the outstanding performances on the day and the pupils are naturally delighted, a huge well done to everyone involved.

Teenage Booster and Meningitis ACWY Vaccinations

Consent packs for vaccinations from NHS Lothian have been circulated to pupils in S3 (and in S4 – S6 who have not yet received their vaccinations).

Every year, pupils in S3 are offered the Teenage booster to complete their life long protection, through routine immunisations, against tetanus, diphtheria and polio. Any pupils in S4 – S6 who have not yet received this vaccination will also be offered this.
