A Day in the Woods

As part of summer school some JHYS pupils recently enjoyed a day of activities in local woodland. Mrs West organised a great selection of activities, including fire and shelter building, as well as creating works of art from the natural things around them.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their day.

Edinburgh Marathon Festival

Congratulations to all the pupils and staff who competed in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 5K on Saturday morning. All the pupils had a great morning and really enjoyed the atmosphere.

A special mention must go to Angus in S1 who came 32nd out of 1092 people!!! in a fantastic 21 mins 52 seconds.

Congratulations also to Miss Fitchett and Mrs. Davidson on completing the half marathon!! A fantastic achievement.

S2 trip to Queen Margaret University

On Thursday 18th May, a group of 18 S2 pupils spent the day at Queen Margaret University in Musselburgh.

They participated in a series of workshops designed to give them an insight into various different courses and careers within healthcare and medicine. These workshops included

  • learning how to remove bone fragments via keyhole surgery,
  • how occupational therapy can assist with recovery from a stroke and

JYHS Library

 

For one day only JYHS Library was taken over by Hogwarts for a magical Harry Potter themed day.

37 pupils joined Mrs.Wilson (Librarian) for the day which included a sorting ceremony, potions class, dueling, butterbeer, creating a patronus, divination and quidditch.

S@S Accelerate – University of Strathclyde

Accelerate is a one-week programme, held at the University of Strathclyde, for pupils at the end of S4, S5 and S6 thinking about going to university. It aims to provide a targeted focus on the pupils’ chosen area of academic interest, giving them a head start on the road to their chosen career.
