S1 STEM Event

Last week all S1 pupils took part in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) event where they had the opportunity to learn about STEM careers and what these jobs entail through interacting with visiting STEM ambassadors.

We were very fortunate to have eleven STEM ambassadors, offering their expert advice, from a wide range of professions such as

  • mechanical, civil and structural engineering,
  • neuroscience research,
  • pharmaceutical research,
  • food technology and
  • banking.

Norwegian Constitution Day (17 May 2018)

17th May is a special day for Norwegians around the world and no matter where they are they get together to celebrate the signing of the Norwegian Constitution in Eidsvoll, May 17, 1814.  It’s a day of breakfast, parades, speeches, ceremonies, singing and ice cream!

This year our JYHS Norwegian students took part in these events in Edinburgh, all of our female students wore their bunad (national dress) for the occasion.

John Byrne National Drawing Competition

Huge congratulations to  Marium Barouni (S2) who was recently announced as a runner up in the John Byrne National Drawing Competition.

At the end of 2017 budding young artists in Scotland were urged to enter the fourth annual John Byrne National Drawing Competition.  Since the launch of the competition, thousands of pupils across Scotland have submitted their artwork to be judged by the renowned artist and playwright himself with the winning selections being exhibited at Paisley Museum and Art Gallery.

BurnOut at “Battle of the Bands”

Our very own JYHS rock band BurnOut (starring Andrew, Jonathan and Michael) has been chosen to take part in “Battle of the Bands” on Friday 18th May 2018. Marks are awarded for audience appreciation so Burnout would like as many friends and supporters in the audience as possible. Everyone is welcome. The venue is the Armadale Partnership Centre (7 North Street, Armadale, EH48 3QB). Doors open at 5.30pm and tickets cost only £2.

P7 Transition Conference; Health and Wellbeing Day

The James Young High School P7 Transition Conference takes place on Thursday 17th May 2018 from 9.30am – 2.30 pm.
