Mental Health and Wellbeing – information for parents and carers

The mental wellbeing of all our young people is a key priority across West Lothian. With this in mind we have created this  information sheet to support all parents and carers support young people.

At the James Young High School staff have a knowledge of mental health issues and in addition we have a number of staff, teaching and non-teaching, who have been trained as Scottish Mental Health First Aiders for Young People.

Step Into STEM

S2 pupils attended Step Into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) with ESP Scotland, Developing Young Workforce West Lothian and West Lothian College.

The pupils got an opportunity to meet local STEM employers and engage with them through interactive sessions. Pupils got to talk to Scientists and ask questions to gain a better understanding of how studying STEM subjects in the senior phase can provide them with the skills required for future careers in STEM. Scottish Concert Band Festival

Our Senior Wind Band headed to Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 16 March to take part in the 10th finals of the Scottish Concert Band Festival. We performed a challenging programme and received a Gold Award for our efforts – a fantastic result as we were participating in the Advanced School Band Class, one of only 5 schools in Scotland to do so.

This supports pupils who have been unable to attend an externally assessed timetabled examination or whose performance in such as examination may have been fundamentally affected as a result of an incident beyond their control.

The following information sets out the JYHS study leave arrangements for 2019, these arrangements are line with the West Lothian Council guidelines,

  • The SQA Exam timetable is available on SQA Webite, click here
