Pupils are introduced to routine safety procedures that must be adopted when working in the kitchen. They will participate in a variety of practical lessons which will, over the BGE course, allow them to experience and adopt the food preparation skills, cookery processes and food safety knowledge which are essential life skills.

Pupils will take part in learning that will help them to understand and identify the link between a poor diet and potentially life threatening diseases. They will have the ability to recognise Scottish Dietary advice and the importance of being able to understand the nutritional information on food labelling and thus use it to make informed healthy food choices.

Pupils will be given the opportunity to relate learning through project work- covering topics such as electrical kitchen equipment, diet, foods of the world, lifestyle choices, food hygiene and individual dietary requirements.
