Nǐ hǎo! Welcome to the West Lothian schools Confucius hub at The James Young High School. On 26 March 2015, the school became the new site of Confucius Classroom, a recognised centre for promoting Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture.

“We are delighted that our school was chosen as the new location for the Confucius hub. We are looking forward to welcoming pupils and teachers from across West Lothian to the new facility.” – Mrs Hatch, Headteacher

In the future, Confucius Classroom will work closely with both Hanban and SCILT with the aim of expanding the network in order to add a positive dimension to all curriculum areas and help raise pupils’ aspirations, preparing them better for working and living in an increasingly competitive, global economy.

In school, many activities are organised including Chinese New Year and China summer trip, all of which help pupils become a global citizen. Activities include:

  • Mandarin SQA Lessons for senior pupils
  • Optional Mandarin taster courses
  • Chinese lunchtime Club
  • Teaching Programme at local cluster Primary Schools
  • S5 Summer Trip to China
