The Level 1 in Sports Leadership is a practical qualification in which candidates must demonstrate their ability to lead others in basic sporting or recreational activities. The aim of the course is to give candidates an understanding of what it means to be an effective leader and knowledge of the skills and abilities they will need in order to lead others successfully. The course is open to pupils who are 16 years or above.

The course is comprised of 7 units:

Unit 1: Planning, preparing and assisting a simple sporting activity

Unit 2: Basic communication skills for leading a sporting activity

Unit 3: Principles and practice in delivering a basic health and fitness session

Unit 4: Understanding fair play in sport

Unit 5: Understanding the role of the sports official

Unit 6: Understanding the scope of local sport recreation activities

Unit 7: Demonstration of leadership skills in sport
