We would like to congratulate Mr. Cunningham (Chemistry and Science Teacher) who participated in his third World Transplant Games this summer. He took part in the individual and team Golf events winning silver in both events.
The Games have been held in countries around the world, with this years Games being held in Malaga, Spain.
There were over 50 events to suit all capabilities including Athletics, Tenpin Bowling, Swimming, Racquet Sports, Golf, Volleyball, Lawn Bowls and Cycling. The standards of these games can be high. The 100 meters has a record of 11.18 seconds and the long jump 6.85 metres!
The games are a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the issue of organ donation as there are currently around 6500 people currently waiting on a transplant.
The next World Transplant Games is due to be held in Newcastle in 2019 and Mr. Cunningham hopes to go one better and bring back a gold.
